Dmitri and I were craving fried catfish and so Dmitri suggested trying The Hush Puppy. Why here? Because The Hush Puppy got its start in Texarkana, Dmitri’s home town! Since then, they have spread their wings and have opened a couple of restaurants here in the Las Vegas area. So, we gave it a shot.
Originally from Texarkana, Arkansas, Charles and Virginia Ghormley and their three sons opened the Hush Puppy Restaurant in September of 1975 here in Vegas. With the success of the first Hush Puppy Restaurant, the family opened a second Hush Puppy Restaurant in January of 1986. They have different food specials depending on the day of the week from Tuesday shrimp dinners to BBQ ribs on Wednesdays. Of course, catfish and fried shrimp are available every day.
We decided to get two fried catfish dinners and of course, we had to have two sweet teas to go with it. We were not disappointed. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside with yummy flavors on the inside. The catfish was seasoned nicely and was delicious. The side of green tomato relish really hit that little extra spot to complete the meal. They do have two choices of catfish, freshwater and farm-raised so if you have a preference they have you covered on both ends. We definitely recommend trying this hot spot out!
